GitsSmart, Inc has developed a new “Early Tech Program” for child care programs and family child care providers: SmartTech.

SmartTech enables the preschool teacher to implement STEM based educational lessons into their daily, weekly and monthly lesson plans.  Our program is written to work within any currently used or yet to be created curriculum that the teacher is already using by giving them some additional choices to add to their lessons.  Whether it is in the science, dramatic play, art, math, blocks or any other center they offer, SmartTech has fun, engaging and educational lessons written to help make learning even better.  SmartTech is written using the Early Childhood Indicators of Progress (ECIPs) and every weekly class has the standards clearly stated along with weekly vocabulary, large group ideas, literacy (books), small group ideas and detail ideas for learning centers.

The idea behind SmartTech began with a joint position statement from NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and the Fred Rogers Center for Early Learning adopted January 2012.  This position statement points out:

“Interactions with technology and media should be playful and support creativity, exploration, pretend play, active play, and outdoor activities.”

“Technology and media can enhance early childhood practice when integrated into the environment, curriculum, and daily routines.”

“When used wisely, technology and media can support learning and relationships.  Enjoyable and engaging shared experiences that optimize the potential for children’s learning and development can support children’s relationships both with adults and their peers”.

“Young children need opportunities to develop the early “technology-handling” skills associated with early digital literacy that are akin to “book-handling” skills associated with early literacy development.  The International Society for Technology in Education (2007) recommends basic skills in technology operations and concepts by age 5”.

Some of the challenges child care programs face in regards to technology include, but are not limited to: lack of staff knowledge, cost and space.  SmartTech was designed with those limitations in mind.

  • Staff: Knowledge: GitsSmart has designed  different In-Service offerings to assist and to educate your staff in how to embed the SmartTech Curriculum into their daily lessons.
  • Cost: Our low upfront cost includes the first 9 months of lesson plans. This will help you keep more of your money in your pocket.
  • Space: No technology components or special supplies are needed to utilize the lesson, which mean no additional space is needed to implement SmartTech.
  • Time: We allow the classroom teacher to pick and choose which learning centers they would like to embed for the week. There is no additional time needed as teachers will just utilize their current learning centers.
